PARKLAND, FL- Ash Wednesday, the first day of the Christian Lenten season, will be held this Wednesday, February 26. Ash Wednesday is observed by many Christians around the world as a day of fasting, abstinence from food, and a time to contemplate our own transgressions. The Lenten season is one that is typically highlighted by abstaining from certain foods or fasting, as Jesus fasted for 40 days in the wilderness. Many people that recognize Ash Wednesday will abstain from certain foods for the entire span of Lent until Easter Sunday.
Mary Help of Christians will be holding Mass with ashes (marking an ash cross on one's forehead) on Wednesday morning at 7 a.m. and in the evening at 5 p.m. in English. A bilingual service will be at Noon and a Spanish service will be held at 7 p.m. on Ash Wednesday. For more information, please visit the Mary Help of Christians web site.
