PARKLAND, FL- The 2nd Annual Chris Hixon Memorial Run/Walk is coming to Charnow Park in Hollywood on February 15, 2020. Chris Hixon lost his life during the tragic events that took place on February 14, 2008.
Hixon was an Athletic Director, Coach, and Campus Monitor during his 20+ year career within the Broward County Public Schools. He worked at Blanche Ely High School, South Broward High School, and Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Hixon was a retired U.S. Navy Machinist Mate First Class. He served the United States Armed Forces for 27 honorable years in support of our nation. Chris's love for his student-athletes was well known throughout his career. He always went the extra mile to ensure students were doing well. Therefore, to continue his legacy and continue to take care of student-athletes, a scholarship was created in his name for student-athletes at the three schools where he worked.
"The Chris Hixon Memorial run is so special because Chris and Corey were planning on training for a 5k in January of 2018," shares Chris's wife, Debbi Hixon. "The proceeds from this run will go towards the Chris Hixon athletic scholarship fund."
The Chris Hixon Memorial Run/Walk was a smashing success in its inaugural year, and the 2nd year is expected to be wonderful as well. There are 350 spots currently available for registration for the event, which costs $30 per person. Registration for the event closes at 11:59 p.m.on February 13. For more information about participating or to donate to the event, please visit the Chris Hixon Memorial Run/Walk registration page.
Debbi Hixon summarizes the event well, adding "Our family started this foundation to remember Chris in the best way we could think of, helping student athletes go on to further their education. This was something Chris was very passionate about. We felt it was the best way to honor him."
