PARKLAND, FL- It was Monday night on the courts at Pine Trails Park.  The Parkland Basketball Club had their first games of the season on Monday night.  Players took to the court to compete, have fun and learn the game while spectators cheered them on. The Parkland Basketball Club has teams for girls from first to ninth grades and boys from first to twelfth grades. The teams started practicing in mid December with games starting this week.  Regular season games run through end of February and playoff games start the first week in March.

The Parkland Basketball Club lost 3 of their players last February in the Stoneman Douglas Shooting.  The club awards 3 scholarships to participating seniors in honor and in memory of Joaquin Oliver, Luke Hoyer and Alex Schachter.  This season each player’s jersey and coach’s shirt display the number 17 to honor the 17 that lost their lives on February 14.
