Dr. Rozella G. Clyde is a lifelong learner and a professional educator running for the Morris County Freeholder seat being vacated by Hank Lyon in 2017.  Dr. Clyde’s passion for the land is anchored in her Western Pennsylvania rural roots. Growing up on a small dairy and poultry farm inspired in her a love for nature, and passion for the preservation of open space, protection of our natural resources, and a respect for the need to balance our scarce resources.

Earning a bachelor’s degree in Social Studies Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1968 provided Dr. Clyde with the opportunity to work with learners both inside and outside the classroom, first in Pennsylvania and later in New York City.  Her Masters in School District Administration from Touro University provided the organization framework used in the creation of 6 different New York City Public high schools law related education programs.  Dr. Clyde learned law through her first husband who was a third year law student when they married, and blind.  Dr. Clyde became his primary reader and scribe during his legal career in human rights law, first as an attorney and later a hearing officer and administrative law judge.  She used this information to craft programs, write curricula, provide professional development and coach academic teams across her 42 years as a New York City educator.  The lack of student options in small magnet school settings led Dr. Clyde to pursue her PhD in Instructional Design for Online Learning.  Human Rights had always been an important part of Dr. Clyde’s mission.  Her love for learning has inspired Dr. Clyde to study the special interests and needs of international students across her broad career and appreciate their unique talents and creativity. Dr. Clyde has been a proud union member for over 47 years.

Dr. Clyde’s introduction to Morris County began in Denville 1970 where her in-laws lived until their deaths in the 1990’s.  Dr. Clyde retired from the NYC public schools in 2012 when she married her current husband, Jim Clyde, and moved to Chatham.  She is currently the educational director of Clydeoscope Educational Consultants, LLC, where she focuses on professional staff development and organizing international exchange programs.

Dr. Clyde seeks to use the skills she had developed over her broad professional life to help Morris County plan for a strong economic future, supporting the establishment of new small businesses in our 39 municipalities, with a focus on helping municipalities celebrate their strong central business districts. She is a strong supporter of sustainable development and the development of data driven strategic planning.  Dr. Clyde has been a team player her entire life. Each new step has led her into interesting new endeavors.  That is why she considers herself a Progressive Democrat.  Morris County cannot be content to just maintain our current status.  We must grow together prepared to address the challenges of the future with hope and trust for one another.
