Only One in 1,000 Scientists Receive This Designation; Dr. Géneréux’s Papers Rank in the Top 1% of Citations for Clinical Medicine
Morristown, NJ – Philippe Géneréux, MD, Co-Director of the Structural Heart Program at Atlantic Health System’s Morristown Medical Center and an interventional cardiologist internationally known for his novel research, has been named a Highly Cited Researcher by the Web of Science Group.
According to Web of Science, Dr. Géneréux’s publications rank in the top one percent of clinical medicine citations over the past decade by his peers and colleagues. Dr. Géneréux has been published more than 430 times in peer-reviewed cardiology journals, and has been cited nearly 11,000 times.
Of the world’s population of scientists and social scientists, Highly Cited Researchers are only one in 1,000.
“I am passionate about investigating new therapies, devices, and guidelines that drive better outcomes and ultimately save more lives for our patients,” said Dr. Géneréux. “It is critical that physician researchers continue to investigate new ways to treat cardiac diseases and issues and share the results broadly. I am honored that the work my teams and I have published has been cited by our peers in their own research and have helped advance medicine.”

About the Highly Cited Researchers List
Since 2002, the Highly Cited Researchers list has identified global research scientists and social scientists who have demonstrated exceptional influence – reflected through their publication of multiple papers frequently cited by their peers during the last decade. This year’s list continues to recognize researchers whose citation records position them in the very highest strata of influence and impact, as it includes 23 Nobel laureates.
Researchers across the world eagerly anticipate the launch of the Highly Cited Researchers list each year and hundreds of universities also celebrate the inclusion of their own researchers on the list.
The data are taken from 21 broad research fields within Essential Science Indicators, a component of InCites. The fields are defined by sets of journals and exceptionally, in the case of multidisciplinary journals such as Nature and Science, by a paper-by-paper assignment to a field based on an analysis of the cited references in the papers. This percentile-based selection method removes the citation advantage of older papers relative to recently published ones, since papers are weighed against others in the same annual cohort.

About Heart Care at Atlantic Health System
Morristown Medical Center, the hub of heart care at Atlantic Health System, is one of the top 30 programs in the country for Cardiology & Cardiac Surgery (U.S. News & World Report) and one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Care (Healthgrades).
Its expert team presents research across the world and is comprised of cardiac surgeons and interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists, heart failure experts, and advanced imagers.
The program also offers specialty care for patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, sports cardiology, cardio-oncology, pediatric cardiology, and heart disease in women. The team works closely with community cardiologists who provide a medical home for patients with heart disease.
Atlantic Health System Heart Care is focused on offering minimally-invasive and non-invasive procedures that help patients return to their lives faster, including valve replacement options for the aortic, mitral, and tricuspid valve, and is helping pioneer the radial (wrist) approach for angioplasties, which is typically a one-day length of stay.
Morristown Medical Center is home to the largest cardiac surgery and cath lab in New Jersey and offers many of the most up-to-date cardiac imaging technologies available.
Patients from Atlantic Health’s four community hospitals are seamlessly connected to Morristown when advanced cardiovascular care is necessary thanks to an infrastructure that includes helipads and ambulance transport and an electronic health record system that allows physicians to share health records in real-time.
Because of its infrastructure to support research through the Atlantic Center for Research, volume, and earned credibility with the sponsors of trials—pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device companies—Atlantic Health System Heart Care is able to offer cutting edge and novel clinical trials that offer patients access to the latest advancements in cardiac care.
About the Web of Science Group
Web of Science Group, a Clarivate Analytics company, organizes the world’s research information to enable academia, corporations, publishers and governments to accelerate the pace of research. It is powered by Web of Science – the world’s largest publisher-neutral citation index and research intelligence platform. Its many well-known brands also include Converis, EndNote, Kopernio, Publons, ScholarOne and the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI).
The ‘university’ of Web of Science Group, ISI maintains the knowledge corpus upon which the index and related information and analytical content and services are built; it disseminates that knowledge externally through events, conferences and publications and it carries out research to sustain, extend and improve the knowledge base.
