Celebrating 50th Anniversary Season

SUMMIT, NJ –December 4, 2019 –  Alexandra Butman, 17, of Parsippany, New Jersey will play the star role of “Sugar Plum Fairy” in this year’s full-length production of New Jersey Dance Theatre Ensemble’s (NJDTE) holiday classic THE NUTCRACKER. She will be joined by renowned professional guest artists. Alexandra, the daughter of Natalia Ejova and Andrij Cybyk currently attends Morris County School of Technology.

NJDTE returns to the Memorial Auditorium with its 50th Anniversary Season of the full-length production of THE NUTCRACKER. Set to the classic music of Peter Tchaikovsky and choreographed by NJDTE Artistic Director Nancy Turano, the ballet features over 60 talented pre-professional dancers from New Jersey alongside renowned international guest artists.  “ Sasha is a senior dancer who has grown tremendously over the years at NJDTE. She is truly talented with phenomenal  technical ability and an illuminating presence onstage.  She will be featured in the role of Sugar Plum Fairy this season as well as well as Dew Drop. We are so excited to see one of our own dancers take on such a role  a technically challenging role as Sugar Plum and perform with such gorgeous artistry. ” says NJDTE Artistic Director Nancy Turano.  Sasha has also studied on scholarship at the prestigious Ecole Superiore in Quebec, Canada for the past summers.

Alexandra  will also be featured in the roles of Lead Marzipan, Arabian, Columbine Doll, Snowflakes. She will be joined by renowned, international guest artists including; Timothy Stickney of Complexions Contemporary Ballet in the role of Dr.Drosselmeyer and Lead Russian, Alexandra Gonzalez and Samuel Kunzman of the Metropolitan Opera Ballet  former New Jersey Ballet prima ballerina Rosemary Sabovick-Bleich as the Grandmother. 

All performances take place at Memorial Auditorium at Montclair State University, 1 Normal Avenue, Montclair, NJ on Saturday, December 14 at 1:00pm and 5:00pm, and Sunday, December 15 at 2:00pm.

Montclair State University is located on Valley Rd. and Normal Ave. in Montclair, NJ. The University's main entrance is on Normal Avenue.
From Points North
Take Garden State Parkway to Route 46 West (exit 154). Exit onto Valley Road (South) toward Montclair.
From Points South
Take Garden State Parkway to Route 3 West (exit 153B). Exit onto Valley Road (South) toward Montclair.
Public Transportation
There is no weekend train service to Montclair Heights.  NJ Transit Bus lines 28, 191, and 705 stop daily in front of the Alexander Kasser Theater (this is the Montclair State University stop). Go to or call NJ Transit at 973-275-5555 for more information.
On-Site Parking. Paid Parking is available at the Red Hawk Parking Lot using parking vending machines. The Memorial Auditorium is a 5 minute walk from the lot
