PARSIPPANY, NJ - Monday seems to be the magic day for relief as cooler conditions should end the excessive heat all have been experiencing. Heavy rain and storms are in the forecast for late Sunday and Monday morning which will bring with them cooler temperatures and an end to the brutal heat and humidity that has been here since Friday.
Before that, however, we can get a heat index approaching 115 degrees today as it is already approaching 100 degress on Sunday morning.
The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook, an excessive heat warning and a flash flood watch for the next two days, saying showers and thunderstorms are forecast to bring periods of heavy rain to New Jersey from Monday morning into Monday night. Rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches are expected to be common, with local amounts up to 3 to 4 inches possible.
The heat index should peak around 2pm today, Sunday. Some rain can start after 6pm tonight but most will arrive during rush hour on Monday morning.
There are currently 5,000 people out of power throughout the state.
