PARSIPPANY – The Parsippany High School football team continues to find ways to get it done.
The second-seeded Red Hawks edged third-seeded Mountain Lakes, 13-6, in the semifinal round of the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 1, Group 2 playoffs on Nov. 15 in Parsippany.
Alex Picinich intercepted a pass in the end zone as Parsippany held off Mountain Lakes late in the sectional semifinals.
It was the second victory for the team over Mountain Lakes this season – with the first win coming by an almost identical score, 13-7, back on Oct. 11.
The Red Hawks will travel to top-seeded Lyndhurst in the North 1, Group 2 final Friday night. Parsippany will try to claim its first sectional championship.
Parsippany has now won 10 games in a row since dropping the season opener.
It will be the second trip to the final after the program made it back in 1977, losing to state powerhouse Phillipsburg.
This 10-win season is a school record for Parsippany.
The Redhawks took a 13-0 lead on Mountain Lakes on a pair of touchdown passes from James Riedinger to Anthony Colasuonno and Picinich.
Riedinger finished 9-for-13 for 149 yards and two TDs.
The defense had three interceptions and Parsippany, like much of the season, relied on its defense all night.
Mountain Lakes made it a 13-6 game in the third quarter on a 1-yard run from Peter Holmberg.
