4 Miler at Garret Mountain Returns On Saturday, Sept. 16

The 4 Miler at Garret Mountain will return to Woodland Park on Saturday, Sept. 16, for the sixth straight year. Presented by The Sax Charitable Foundation – Sax LLP’s philanthropic arm – the annual run/walk event directly benefits the Child Life Department at St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital in Paterson. This department depends solely on private funding to support the children’s quality-of-life programs that help decrease the stress and anxiety caused by illness and hospitalization.

A highlight of the 4 Miler is the chance for children to contribute to the cause. Kids’ dashes are arranged for children ages 2 to 11 beginning at 10:15 a.m., and will feature distances ranging from 25 to 200 yards.  The entry fee for a kids’ dash is $5 and all children participating will receive a t-shirt and a finishing ribbon.

Adults also can participate in one of Northern New Jersey’s most challenging and scenic 4-mile runs at the start time of 9 a.m., or a 1.5-mile trail walk starting at 9:10 a.m. The pre-registration fee for adults is $30.

To register for the event, visit www.raceforum.com/garret. Additional race day entertainment will include a live DJ, random prize drawings, a variety of children’s activities including face painting, and post-race refreshments. The 568-acre Garret Mountain Reservation is located at 288 Rifle Camp Rd. The event will be held rain or shine.

Since its inception in 2012, the 4 Miler has raised nearly $300,000 for the Child Life Department, becoming one of their largest financial supporters, and one of the most successful philanthropic fall events in the tri-state area. Last year, over 350 runners/walkers participated and $60,000 was raised.

All expenses associated with the event are being absorbed by Sax LLP in order to donate 100 percent of the sponsorship proceeds directly to St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital. Sponsorship opportunities are still available. Interested corporations, foundations and individuals can contact Bianca Madrigal at 973-472-6250 ext. 254, or via email at BMadrigal@saxllp.com for more information.

Adopt A Pet

November 20, 2017

Tyson took a trip to the vet with an abscessed leg wound from an animal bite. Being an inside/outside cat at the time, bite wounds can be pretty common. So you take care of the injury and move on, right? Tyson’s owner had a different solution in mind. Euthanasia! Of course, that was not going to be OUR solution. Born in 2012, a perfectly healthy and friendly boy, there simply was no logical ...
