Applications Open for Annual Scholarships Offered by Alliance of Private Special Education Schools

MONTVILLE, NJ - The Alliance of Private Special Education Schools of Northern New Jersey, a group of more than 30 state-approved private special education schools in northern and central New Jersey, has opened scholarship applications for graduating high school students with disabilities.

The scholarships are designed to empower, recognize and reward graduates with special needs. Students with a disability graduating from any public school in northern New Jersey may apply for the Connections for the Future Scholarship. Up to $1,000 in funds are provided to support opportunities after high school including continuing education and training, independence, and community integration.

 “Each year, when the Scholarship Committee reviews these applications, we are inspired by their aspirations and ambition,” said Diane Somers, who leads the Alliance scholarship committee. “I’m honored to be part of this important part of our work,” she added.

To learn more about and apply for the scholarships, go to the Alliance’s website at http://specialeducationalliancenj.org. Application deadline for the scholarships is March 30.   

The winners will be presented with the scholarships on April 28 at the Alliance’s Annual Spring Conference happening at the College of Saint Elizabeth in Morristown. The conference is free of charge and open to all community members who are interested in learning more about advocacy for students and young adults with disabilities.

The Alliance of Private Special Education Schools of Northern New Jersey is a member- based non-profit organization comprised of state-approved private schools for students with disabilities. Based in Montville, the Alliance provides important resources, advocacy assistance, and information for parents, educators, professionals, and others who are interested in helping students receive the special education services he or she needs. The website features a unique “school finder” tool to help visitors locate an appropriate school program. Resources and informative articles on special education topics can be found at: specialeducationalliancenj.org.
