Boys Ice Hockey: Passaic Valley/Cedar Grove Bests Paramus Catholic 5-2, Earns Spot in State Tourney

LITTLE FALLS, NJ - Alex LoPresti delivered a hat trick to help Passaic Valley/Cedar Grove defeat Paramus Catholic 5-2 at Floyd Hall on Saturday.  

LoPresti grabbed his first goal on a power play with help from Joe Kubu early in the first period. Paramus Catholic's Julian Sowinski scored on an assist from Ryan Mak with a little under two minutes left in the first period to tie the game.  

Jack Prospero scored for the Hornets early in the second period with help from Kubu and LoPresti, but Sowinki tied the game up again assisted by Fred Sabato and Christian Brunelle.  Dan Lapinski pulled the Hornets ahead when he found the back of the net with help from Kubu and Vincent DiNardo with a minute left in the second.

LoPresti finished up his hat trick and clinched the win for the Hornets in the third period. He was assisted by Kubu on the first goal and by his brother Nick LoPresti on the second.  

Noah Vazquez had 18 saves for the Hornets, while Joseph Hughes had 23 saves for Paramus Catholic.

The Hornets end regular season play at 10-9-1. They await notification of their next game in the Big North Conference Playoffs at the Ice Vault in Wayne this weekend. The win against Paramus Catholic earned them a spot in the State Tournament beginning Feb. 20.

Street Hockey Program Open To Children from Passaic Valley area, Cedar Grove

WOODLAND PARK, NJ - The WP Boys & Girls Club is planning registration dates for its summer street hockey program. The program is offered to all residents of Woodland Park, Cedar Grove, Totowa and Little Falls, who are currently in kindergarten to eight grade.
