PROSPECT PARK, NJ – When Prospect Park Police Chief Charlie Atie retired in July last year, Captain Ammen Matari was designated the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) to oversee the department.
Mayor Mohamed T. Khairullah has announced that Matari will be officially established as the Chief of the Prospect Park Police Department in April. “Captain Matari has demonstrated tremendous leadership capabilities since the departure of Chief Charlie Atie,” the mayor said. “The Public Safety Council Committee and I were impressed with his plans for the Police Department which includes additional community policing and innovative quality of life initiatives.”
Once Matari becomes Prospect Park's newest police chief, he will be the second Palestinian-American to hold such a position in the state of New Jersey, following Police Chief Mustafa Rabboh of Bergenfield.
