Families Behind the Badge Tournament Raises Over $10K

WOODLAND PARK, NJ - While rain may have postponed the fourth annual Families Behind the Badge softball tournament by a day, the event this year was a great success. The tournament, held on May 20, pits teams of North Jersey police officers against each other, honors officers that have given their life in the line of duty and their families, and raises funds to assist those surviving families via the State PBA Survivors Fund.

A total of $10,500 was raised at the event. Of that, $7,500 will be donated to the NJ State PBA Survivors Fund and $3,000 will be donated to the family of the late Lt. Christopher Robateau. The Jersey City Police Department lieutenant was struck and killed by a vehicle while checking on the welfare of another driver who had been involved in an accident on the New Jersey Turnpike. He is survived by his wife and three children.

Organizers Councilwoman Tracy Kallert, Councilman Vincent DeCesare and Kaitlyn Kallert send their appreciation to everyone who came out and supported the amazing event.

“Dedicating this tournament to Lt. Christopher Robateau of the J.C.P.D. was an honor and a privilege,” Councilwoman Kallert said. “To everyone who played, volunteered, sponsored, and attended thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
