WOODLAND PARK, NJ - The Friends of the Alfred H. Baumann Free Public Library (FAB) was recently awarded its 501(c)3 status as a non-profit by the state.
Founded in early 2015, FAB was boosted by seed money given by the library’s Board of Trustees to the group that had been in trust from a previously disbanded volunteer Friend’s group. The purpose of the Friends of the Library is to increase awareness and use of the library, stimulate use of the library’s facilities, resources, and services, and encourage endowments, bequests, and gifts for the benefit of the library.
The group held several successful events since launching, including their two signature events, "Sweet Sensations Dessert Evening," and a "Literary Tea Party." Additionally, they hold an annual giant book sale.
“Our FABulous Friends are an integral part of the life of our library. We are grateful for their dedication and creative efforts in bringing unique and interesting events to our library as well as helping us raise awareness in the community," said library Director Linda Hoffman. "They just launched their inaugural newsletter and they look forward to continued success. I would encourage anyone interested to attend a meeting and get involved."
Last year, FAB with local business members, donated museum passes to the library for use by Woodland Park residents to such locations as the Museum of Natural History, the Intrepid, the Guggenheim and Brooklyn Museums, the Newark Museum and most recently have added the Yogi Berra Museum.
FAB’s membership grew to over 70 members within its first year and is currently at 163 members including several business memberships. If you are interested in becoming a member, a copy of the membership form is on the website. Print and mail the completed form with annual membership fee or stop in the library. Renewals are sent out in October. Please note if you would like to be part of a committee or volunteer. Meetings are on the second Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the library except, July and December.
