Montclair Police Search for Hit-and-Run Driver After Striking Victim in Inclement Weather

MONTCLAIR, NJ - Montclair Police are in search of a suspect driving a tan GMC sport utility vehicle who fled the scene after striking a pedestrian and nearly missing another on Tuesday.

The 54-year-old victim from Montclair was taken to the hospital with complaint of pain in his side. He had been struck by the vehicle from behind while walking on Grove Street near Claremont Avenue at approximately 8:23 p.m., TAPinto Montclair first reported. 

Lt. David O'Dowd stated, "The male had been walking in the street, north on Grove when he was struck from behind. A female, who had been walking in the street with the victim, was not struck."  

Police and EMS rushed to the scene to provide assistance, according to witnesses. The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment, police officials confirm.

Montclair Police are now searching for the vehicle, which fled the scene north on Grove Street. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Montclair Police Department.
