Montclair State University Student Sexual Assault Charge Dropped, Reports Say

MONTCLAIR, NJ - A Montclair State University student who was charged with sexual assault in 2015 against another student, has now had charges dropped against him, according to News 12 New Jersey reports.

Following the incident in 2015, Charles Jones, 20, of Randolph, had been arrested for the alleged sexual assault of another student at the Newark Broad Street rail station, the Montclarion reported.

He was charged with second degree sexual assault for the Sept. 25, 2015 incident, which was allegedly recorded on video by other Montclair State students and shared on social media, according to the victim.

The victim made a statement two days after the alleged assault via Twitter explaining what she states occurred and that she had decided to speak out to dispel rumors. Also she did not name Jones, she stated that other students stood around an watched. Police then took action and arrested Jones on campus at Sinatra Hall.

The victim initially reported that the incident took place after a fraternity party, has also said that she dropped out of school to get her life back on track, calling the incident “traumatizing” and the two people recording it, "mean girls." 

The individuals who allegedly filmed the assault had not been arrested or charged, according to the Montclarion.
