PATERSON, NJ – The Passaic County Board of Chosen Freeholders, in partnership with the Friends of Passaic County Parks, Inc. have assembled a variety of free events for county residents to take advantage of during the summer months.

These events include a movie series, concert series, dog training lessons, yoga classes, training for proper use of the outdoor fitness equipment in our parks, archery classes, farmers markets, bird watching, nature hikes, and a game with Passaic County First Responders and High School Athletes against the Harlem Wizards.

“I am proud of our staff and partners for putting together such a varied and exceptional slate of events for the summer,” said Freeholder Director Sandi Lazzara. “Parks and access to entertainment for families are essential for a high quality of life. These recreational family activities connect people with their neighbors and develops a stronger community.”

Every Tuesday until Sept. 26 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the County hosts Tuesday’s in the Plaza. Located within the newly renovated William J. Bate Memorial Courthouse Plaza, located at 77 Hamilton Street in Paterson, the event boasts live music, a farmers market run by City Green Inc., and numerous events designed to provide patrons with information on government services.

Throughout the park system, the county is hosting several concerts and movies. Local legends will be performing at our concert series. Captain Mike and the Flamethrowers will play on July 26 at Rifle Camp Park, and Swingmen and Misfit Mutts will play on Aug. 31 at Weasel Brook Park. All concerts start at 7 p.m. and are free of charge.

The Movies in the Park Series will show Zootopia on July 22 at Garret Mountain Reservation, Moana on August 5th at Highlands Preserve in West Milford, Harry Potter’s Fantastic Beasts on August 12th at Goffle Brook Park, and National Treasure will be shown on Sept. 9 at the Dey Mansion in Wayne. All movies start at 8:30 p.m.

Passaic County has also secured the Harlem Wizards for a game on July 23 between Passaic County Officers, Firefighters, and athletes from Passaic County Technical Institute. The game will start at 2 p.m. at Garret Mountain Reservation off of Mountain Ave in Woodland Park. This is the first time Passaic County has hired the famous Harlem Wizards for an event.

Recently, Goffle Brook Park in Hawthorne and Weasel Brook Park in Clifton were outfitted with outdoor fitness equipment. This equipment was supplied by a grant through the Horizon Foundation to promote exercise and healthy living. This fitness equipment affords residents the opportunity to use professional gym equipment without purchasing a membership. Prime and Lure Fitness are running fitness training sessions in these parks several times a week to teach residents how to properly use the equipment. Passaic County is also offering free yoga instruction in Goffle Brook Park and Garret Mountain Reservation.

The new dog run in Goffle Brook Park also hosts regular dog training classes. These classes normally cost residents hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars, but are being offered free of charge.

“We are investing in our parks and providing recreational activities for families throughout Passaic County,” said Freeholder Theodore T.J. Best. “With so many activities, it is our hope that there will be something for everyone. I personally look forward to seeing residents enjoying outdoor activities in our parks throughout the summer.
