Police officers throughout the area will be participating in the Passaic County Distracted and Aggressive Driving Task Force event this weekend.
The goal of the task force is to focus on distracted and aggressive driving via education and strict enforcement thereby making the roadways in our county and the surrounding counties safer. The task force has expanded its focus to also include strict enforcement in the areas of occupancy protection, pedestrian safety, distracted and aggressive driving and driving while intoxicated.
"We want people to put the phone down, slow down, and buckle up," said Lt Scott R. Nayda Sr. (Ret), Passaic County Traffic Officer's Association president, NJ Police Traffic Officers Association, VP Region 3.
Since its inception in September of 1999, the previous task force events have yielded more than 38,500 summonses, more than 365 arrests and hundreds of impounded vehicles. Drunk driving enforcement fund funds and other traffic enforcement grant dollars are utilized during the event to offset extra patrol costs.
