TOTOWA, NJ - Police have identified the body that was found on May 15 inside a home at 340 Totowa Rd.
Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Totowa Police Chief Robert Coyle said in a press release that the Northern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office in Newark identified the body as Luis Rodrigues, a 22-year-old man from Paterson.
Police initially located the body of what initially appeared to be a deceased female inside the building, which is a vacant multi-family dwelling. Due to the condition of the remains, an identification could not be confirmed at the scene, according to Valdes, and the body was positively identified following the autopsy performed in Newark.
Totowa Police had been called to the home by a concerned citizen regarding a strange odor coming from the at that location.
Although identification has been made, the manner and cause of death are still pending the results of additional tests. The preliminary results of the investigation suggest that there is no indication that the death is suspicious. At this time, no suspects are being sought, and there is nothing to indicate that there is any danger to the public, Valdes added.
The investigation is still ongoing and is being conducted by the Totowa Police Department, the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, and the New Jersey Medical Examiner’s Office. More information will be released once it becomes available.
