RED BANK, NJ - The Navesink Business Group (NBG) recently held their bi- monthly meeting where Executive Director Rob Lowe opened the meeting by introducing highlighted business Coastal System Technology (CST), a 27-year-old company owned by Doug Daniels.
“In January, Microsoft will be stopping support for Windows 7. What that means is there will be no security updates. If (your business), has financial, health, or personal information, you’re not going to be getting security updates which leaves you vulnerable,” said Daniels.
Daniels said he’s been very busy with companies, especially those that could be audited for HIPPA requirements and such to ensure they are compliant.
Discussing upgrading versus purchasing new, Daniels said, “If your computer is more than 4 or 5 years old, get a new one. You’ll be getting something faster and the technology is better.”
In a discussion of Apple versus Microsoft, Daniels related that most business software is run on Microsoft and that the two just aren’t compatible. He did note that for home use, Apples graphics are superior.
Daniels stressed the importance of changing your passwords and being careful what you put up on social media. Hackers can look at your social media posts and figure out your security questions.
“They see your hometown, kids, dogs name and sometimes figure out your passwords. When changing your password, always use characters, numbers, letters and symbols. Always use some security virus. If you use a free version, you’re responsible for running scans.”
Coastal System Technology is a full-service provider offering 24/7 remote monitoring of your equipment alerting you if there is a problem, desktop and laptop repair, maintenance and upgrades including spyware removal, security cameras that can be viewed over the Internet, plus web design, hosting and Internet solutions.
