Rutgers Master Gardeners’ Plant Sale May 5, 6 at Presby Iris Gardens

MONTCLAIR, NJ - It must be spring if it’s time for the Master Gardeners' Plant Sale. Stock up on sought-after garden perennials, annuals, grasses, small trees, shrubs, berries, ferns, vegetables, and herbs as well as hard-to-find tomato varieties. Many of the plants are grown from seed or cuttings in the Master Gardeners’ greenhouse in Roseland, including a wide variety of coleus. Members have been busy propagating and potting plants all winter to ensure a large and diverse selection to choose from. This marks the 32nd year of this sell-out event.

  • Friday, May 5, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Presby Memorial Iris Gardens, 474 Upper Mountain Ave., Montclair
  • Saturday, May 6, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Presby Memorial Iris Gardens, 474 Upper Mountain Ave., Montclair
  • Saturday, May 13, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Garibaldi Hall (Next to the Essex County Environmental Center) 621A Eagle Rock Ave., Roseland

"Our mission is to provide high quality plants to the public with the opportunity to learn more about the gardening experience, from its impact on the environment, to what to serve on your dining table" said Helen Stack, sale chair.

Master Gardeners will help guide the experienced and novice gardener to select the right plant for the right location with instructions for care. The 'Vegetable Teaching Demonstration Garden’ will be open at the Presby Memorial Iris Gardens with Master Gardeners on hand to answer questions.

Rutgers Master Gardener Helpline staff will be onsite at both locations. Visitors are encouraged to bring their questions on disease, pests, plant identification and cultural care. Fact sheets will be available on a variety of topics including gardening for pollinators.

Cash, checks and credit cards are accepted. For ease of shopping, although we have boxes and holding areas for your selections, some customers prefer to bring along a garden cart or child’s wagon.

Come join in the fun and get started on your great garden!  Plants make wonderful Mother’s Day gifts.

The Master Gardeners of Essex County is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. Our annual Plant Sale is our only fundraiser. Proceeds are used to fund our efforts to beautify and improve the quality of life in Essex County, New Jersey.
