School Board Candidates From Woodland Park Outline Goals, Qualifications


WOODLAND PARK, NJ - Five candidates are running for the three open seats on the Woodland Park Board of Education. One candidate, Lori Brigati, is running for the one open seat representing Woodland Park on the Passaic Valley Regional High School Board of Education. 

TAPinto Passaic Valley sent requests to all the candidates for their goals and qualifications. Responses from local Board of Education candidates Sanjay Desai and Samantha Feuss were not received.

Lori Brigati is running for a three year seat on the Passaic Valley High School Board of Education where she is a current member and past vice president having served for the past six years. Married to Robert, they are the parents of Roberto who is currently serving in the US Navy, Vincenzo, Nicholas and Emily. She has been a resident of Woodland Park for 24 years.

Lori, a graduate of Clifton High School and the Computer Processing Institute is currently employed by the Woodland Park Department of Public Works. She is a member of the Passaic Valley Football & Cheerleading Parents Association and a member and past vice president of the Memorial Home & School Association. Lori is a former member and past vice president of Beatrice Gilmore Home & School Association and former member and past president of Charles Olbon Home & School Association. She is also a current member and former financial secretary of the West Paterson Boys & Girls Club and a certified Rutgers coach. Lori is also a past member of the Woodland Park Municipal Alliance.

Lori is focused on further expanding educational opportunities between Passaic Valley Regional High School and the Woodland Park school districts to provide even more advantages to our students. The current school partnership in the tri-town region has allowed middle school students to take courses at Passaic Valley High School. 


Lisa Vainieri Marshall

Lisa Vainieri Marshall, a current member of the Woodland Park Board of Education for three years is running for another three year seat. She is a resident of Woodland Park for 15 years, is married to Ross Marshall and the mother of Anthony. 

Lisa holds a master's in educational leadership from NJCU, a bachelor's degree in special education from NJCU and a NJ supervisor certification and principal certification. She is a director of student assignment services and transportation for the Paterson Public Schools. Prior to her current position she was a special education teacher in Paterson and a former early Intervention therapist with innovative interventions.

Lisa is a past member of the Woodland Park Board of Adjustment and a former Mayor's Delegate of the Woodland Park Planning Board. She is a past member of the Memorial School 8th Grade Dance committee, a former cheerleading coach and a former Summer Camp counselor.

Lisa's focus is on student achievement and is committed to educating all students and providing the resources, technology and curriculum they need to succeed in the future. 


Jairo Rodriguez

Jairo Rodriguez is running for a three year seat on the Woodland Park Board of Education. He has been a resident of Woodland Park for four years with his wife Nicole and just became parents for the first time at the end of October.

A senior airman for the United States Air Force, Jairo served in Iraq and Afghanistan and is the recipient of various military honors and commendations. He is the second vice commander and financial officer of the Woodland Park American Legion Post 238. Jairo was a member of the American Legion Memorial School Monument committee and is the Mayor's Delegate on the Woodland Park Planning Board.

A licensed NJ Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams in Clifton he is the chairperson of the culture/community outreach and agent leadership council committees. An active member of the Passaic County Board of REALTORS®, he is vice chairperson of the professional development committee and a member of the community outreach and advocacy committees.

Jairo wants to focus on developing better community relations and outreach to the public. Communicating with school families, staff and the entire community about what is happening in our schools is his priority. 


Laura Spagnola-Vargas 

Laura Spagnola Vargas is running for a three year seat on the Woodland Park Board of Education. Married to Angel, they are the parents of Kimberly, Kaylynn, Anthony, Joseph and Isabella. She has been a resident of Woodland Park for 15 years.

Laura attained her emergency medical technician certification from Passaic County Community College and has been employed by Passaic Valley Water Commission for 24 years. She is a current member and shop steward of the CWA Local 1032 and is a former EMT for the City of Paterson Fire Department.

Laura is the chairwoman of the Woodland Park Special Needs Advisory Committee (WP SNAC) and the coordinator of the Special Needs Basketball Program. She is a current member of Charles Olbon Home and School Association and chairwoman of the 2017 Kindergarten Committee. Laura is also a current member of Beatrice Gilmore & Memorial School Home and School Associations and is president of 8th Grade Dance Committee. She is a current member of the West Paterson Boys & Girls Club and certified Rutgers coach, cheering advisor, assistant softball coach and former T-ball coach. Laura is a current member of the Woodland Park Good and Welfare Committee. She is the 2017 Mayor & Council Woman's History Month Recipient.

Laura wants to ensure that all our students in our schools are residents of Woodland Park because our taxpayers should not be paying to educate children who do not live in our community.
