LITTLE FALLS, NJ - As the weather grows warmer and the days grow longer, the summer countdown begins. With a beautiful weekend approaching, St. George Orthodox Church in Little Falls invites everyone to join them for its annual summer fair.

Come experience delicious authentic Mediterranean foods including Grape leaves, falafel, tabouleh, kibbee, gyros, hot dogs, hamburgers, fries, sausage and peppers and ribs. Be sure to leave room for the Baklava and many more scrumptious homemade pastries and desserts.

This year’s festival will again feature ethnic foods, live entertainment including dabke music and dancing, both outdoor and indoor activities and games for children, shops offering accessories and items, and the bookstore showcasing Byzantine style iconography and books as an opportunity to learn more about the Orthodox life and faith.

Co-chairs of the festival for 2018 are Fadia Juzdan and David Tadros.

"The church is a home where all families come together with love and hard work," Juzdan said. "All the food is made from scratch to provide a true cultural experience. Everyone works together in fellowship to create a festive and delicious weekend. There are no strangers at St. George, just friends who haven't met yet."

Father Dimitri of St. George reminds us of the importance of unity rather than division.

“How pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity,” he said, quoting Psalm 133:1. “This year’s festival is yet another opportunity to express this unity for all to come and see the beauty of our faith, culture, and our everlasting spirit of love and joy."

When asked what St. George’s festival is all about, David Tadros, a lifelong member of the church said, “The festival is about sharing our cultural and heritage with the community. We are proud of where we are from and we want to show it off.”

Admission to the fair, which is rain or shine, is free.

Dates and times:

  • Friday, June 15 from 6 to 11 p.m.
  • Saturday, June 16, from 3 to 11 p.m.
  • Sunday, June 17, from 12 to 7 p.m.

We can never forget we are a nation of immigrants.

We cannot fall prey to fear, ignorance and anger when we  have been historically driven by freedom and justice.

We must have the courage and will to fight hate, bigotry and prejudice.

We must not wake up to what we hoped was a bad dream and ...
