WOODLAND PARK, NJ -The West Paterson Fire Department has created a training facility for its members on Nesser Lane, near the rear of the recycling center. The make-shift home will provide the department the ability to train for roof ventilation, forcible entry, bail out operations, and the use of ground ladders. The inside is a maze for advancing hose lines and for practicing searches.
The department recently had the opportunity to do a series of demos in front of the department chief, assistant chiefs, mayor and council.
They also had access to a house that is scheduled to be demolished at the corner of Squirrelwood Road and Rockland Avenue. On July 25, members simulated a structure fire using smoke machines inside. Firefighters advanced hose lines, and practiced search and rescue operations. They also practiced roof ventilations on the exterior using ventilation saws, and gave some of the newer members practice at overhaul pulling walls and ceilings inside the structure.
