Morristown Wear Orange Day: June 7, 2019

Morristown Wear Orange Day: June 7, 2019

Wear Orange Day, or Gun Violence Awareness Day, will be held on June 7th in Morristown, NJ. Please join Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, as we turn South Street orange, in honor of the 100 lives cut short by gun violence every day.

Wear Orange was started after Hadiya Pendleton, a 15-year old girl from Chicago, who was shot and killed. Hadiya was killed just one week after performing at President Obama’s second inaugural parade in 2013. Her family and friends decided to wear orange in honor of her life and legacy. Since then, orange has become the defining color in the gun violence prevention movement.

The “Wear Orange” movement truly gains momentum when gun sense activists come together to fight for a future free from devastating, daily gun violence. Wear Orange weekend gives us the opportunity to show the country just how powerful our movement is when we unite!

Together, we will “paint” South Street orange, by decorating the steps of Town Hall orange, tying orange ribbons around lamp posts, changing church spotlights to orange and having store owners hang Wear Orange placards in their storefront windows.

Please share this important and fun event with friends and family.

Where Do We Start the Larger Conversation About Guns?

Let's talk about our rights and our freedoms.

How many were free to shop at a Wal-Mart last two Sundays ago without fear that El Paso copycat would announce himself with the staccato fire of an AR-15?

You saw the stampede in the theater district in New York City when a motorcycle backfired. And the evacuation of a Wal-Mart in Union because of a false report.

We may have freedoms, but ...

In Praise of Fútbol, the Game We Call Soccer

What I’ve learned in my travels to Europe and South America in the last couple of years is how refreshing it is to get away from English.

Not being able to understand the banter of language around you is a chance to luxuriate in your own thoughts. You are in a crowd, but not part of it, free of the irritating banality of most conversations.

In a strange land I can sit and be oblivious ...

The Killer Across the Table by John Douglas and Mark Olshaker (William Morrow, 2019)

Without the Bad, You Wouldn't Feel the Good

Old memories can be wonderful, and, they can be difficult. Remembering a old rough relationship with a family member can remind us of how good we have it currently. Joan talks about an old TV show reminded her of times past and how much better her life is now.

Joan: One of my friends stopped by my house this past weekend and when I answered the door, she was surprised to see tears streaming ...

Follow Your Intuition…It Knows the Way

Intuition can be a tricky thing, mostly because we sometimes push it aside. Afterall, it warns us…and maybe we don’t want to hear that warning. Joan had an experience many of us have had: pushing past her intuition only to learn her gut was right all along.

Joan: Throughout the last decade, my professional life has taken many twists and turns. There are times that I operate ...

Letter: Inspired by her dog, Girl Scout Teaches Others About Pet Adoption

Why not consider adoption when seeking a pet? I’ve always been surprised by how many people don’t see local shelters as an option, as I knew that there were many dogs in shelters who need a home, and breeders don't always treat their dogs humanely. When I question my friends, these are the most common reasons as to why they didn't adopt: “We really wanted a specific ...
