CEDAR GROVE, NJ - It may have been the best kept secret in Cedar Grove. The successful 80s boy band New Kids on The Block released their new video and the school featured in the video just may look familiar. Unbeknownst to most of Cedar Grove, including a large fan base of local moms who grew up with NKOTB music, the video was shot on Jan. 26 and released on Friday.
"The label had asked us really to keep it low-key, because they didn’t want any images and stuff like that getting out before the music video actually was released," said Boad of Education and the Associate Director at New Jersey Motion Picture and TV Commission David Schoner. "I’ve been working in the film business in at the film commission for over 33 years and I kind a pride myself on not having a single autograph in that period of time. We just really kind of try to work with the industry and be professional about it."
Filmed in the classrooms and hallways of Cedar Grove High School, the video features the band members (Jonathan Knight, Jordan Knight, Donnie Wahlberg, Joey McIntyre and Danny Wood) visiting a high school class as old men (in real life they're all in their late 40s and early 50s) to lecture on the history of "the boys in the band." A tribute to the boy bands of the past and present, the video features cameos from other 80s music icons like Debbie Gibson and Naughty by Nature. New Kids on the Block will kick off their "Mixtape" Tour in May.
As a thank you to Cedar Grove High School, New Kids on the Block donated the new elevator wrap and Panther Paw decals for the building.
