TOTOWA, NJ - The Totowa Public Library and Kohl’s of Woodland Park have joined together for a program called "Recycle Beyond the Bag." The library will be collecting household plastic bags and wraps that will be recycled and used by a company named Trex to make composite products.
If the library can collect 500 pounds of plastic items by Aug. 1, Trex will give them a bench made out of recycled materials.
It is getting harder these days to recycling plastic bags, as recycling companies mostly no longer accept them. Trex, however, uses these materials to create outdoor products such as decking, railings and benches.
Items being collected by the library include produce bags, ice bags, cereal box liners, bread bags, bubble wrap, newspaper sleeves, and more. All items must be clean and dry.
The Totowa Public Library, 537 Totowa Rd., has three collection containers located near the front and back entrances for the bags.
