PATERSON, NJ- Citing falling hospitalization rates, a deceased rate of infection from the COVID-19 virus, and increased testing, Mayor Andre Sayegh announced Thursday that Eastside Park and the Paterson Great Falls National Park will reopen at 6:00 a.m. Friday.

Eastside Park will be open to pedestrians only and those visiting can only engage in “passive” recreation. Basketball courts, workout areas, and others will remain closed.

This is a trial run for the further loosening of restrictions Sayegh said, warning that if “people are not on their best behavior, social distancing, or taking the issue seriously,” he will move to shut both parks again.

Adding that it is “not a license to run wild,” Public Safety Director shared that mobile precincts as well COVID-19 enforcement and patrol units will be patrolling the areas and will remove anyone not complying with established best health practices.

“We don’t want to do that,” he said. “But we have an obligation to the public and project your safety.”
