WOODLAND PARK, NJ - The two men apprehended by police in Woodland Park last night were suspected of an armed robbery in Denville in Morris County. Their names have not yet been disclosed by police.
The two suspects came down Route 80, fleeing New Jersey State Police and abandoned the vehicle they were in on Rockland Avenue in Woodland Park, according to Mayor Keith Kazmark. The two then traveled on foot through the Garden section of town (between Grimes Park and Squirrelwood Road).
Assisting the State Police and Woodland Park Police were the Totowa PD, the Fairfield PD, the Passaic County Sheriff’s Department, including its K-9 Unit.
"The outstanding collective efforts of these law enforcement agencies, along with attentive residents who called the police desk with information as to the suspects whereabouts led to their arrest near Maple Avenue by our officers," Kazmark said.
Police initially reported last night that the due was seen in the McKeown Avenue and Salomone Avenue area. Residents in the neighborhood were advised by a reverse 9-1-1 call. The police department as well as Mayor Kazmark also posted on Facebook. They advised all residents to lock all exterior doors and do not answer the door for anyone.
