WOODLAND PARK, NJ - The Woodland Park Municipal Alliance for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse's annual National Night Out, held on Aug. 6, was a true community celebration. The event, which included all facets of the community, allowed the Borough's volunteer first responders - police, fire and EMT - to be in the spotlight and showcase what they do.

The West Paterson Volunteer Fire Department did a series of demonstrations. The first was teaching kids how to use a fire extinguisher on a controlled fire. The kids had a blast putting the fire out. The second was a bail out demonstration. A firefighter bailed out of the Truck 2 platform which was approximately 40 feet in the air. The third was a vehicle extrication. Rescue Company 1 worked to stabilize the vehicle, and extract a victim trapped inside. The department also had the Paterson Fire Department's smoke trailer on hand, which teaches residents about fire safety and how to safely remove yourself from your house should a fire occur and the house is full of smoke.

The event also offered a number of bounce attractions for the kids, free food from various entities, give-a-ways, music, a photo booth, and tables from community groups and businesses.
