WOODLAND PARK, NJ - PBA Local 173 held a retirement dinner at The Brownstone on July 12 to honor Woodland Park Police Department Sgt. Thomas Bolen, who retired after 26 years with the Department.
Hired in February 1993, during his career, Sgt. Bolen has received nine meritorious awards, five exceptional duty awards, five honorable service awards, a PBA state award, a Department unit citation, and been recognized for three life savings. In 1996, he was inducted into the N.J. Police Honor Legion for saving a 10-year-old boy and his dog from a burning house.
Sgt. Bolen served 11 years in the Detective Bureau, three years assigned to the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office narcotics unit, 20 years as a firearms instructor for the Department and the Passaic County Police Academy, and seven years as the WPPD Swat Team commander while a member of the Passaic County Rapid Deployment Team.
