GLEN ROCK, NJ – An attempted burglary call early Friday morning that turned into a four-town stolen car chase ending in Paterson has Glen Rock Police asking for assistance in identifying any suspicious behavior in the Abbington Terrance, Hamilton Avenue and Gramercy Place areas of the township during the wee hours.

At approximately 1:30 a.m., Glen Rock police officers responded to Abbington Terrace on an attempted burglary through a residence's rear door.

While canvassing the area on nearby Gramercy Place, a Subaru wagon driving at an excessive speed passed an officer. He attempted to stop the vehicle as it fled onto Harristown Road, refusing to stop, police said. The vehicle was registered to a resident on the 200 block of Gramercy Place.

While the officer was in pursuit of the vehicle, two other officers responded to the owner's home where they determined the vehicle had been stolen from the driveway. Police believe the keys had been left in the Subaru while the owner was moving cars in the driveway the night before.

The owner reported that there was over $1,000 worth of property, including a set of golf clubs, in the vehicle when it was stolen. A mountain bike was found near where the vehicle was stolen, and several vehicles and garages in the area showed signs they were rummaged through.

The pursuit of the stolen vehicle continued into Paramus, police said, then back into Fair Lawn through Elmwood Park on Broadway. An officer from the Paramus Police Department joined the pursuit which headed into Paterson and was subsequently terminated by police.

Glen Rock Police are asking residents to check any video doorbells, exterior cameras or other surveillance sources for any evidence related to these events. Anyone who has video or witnessed anything is asked to contact the Glen Rock Police Department Detectives at 201-670-3947 or 201-670-3948.

Police urge residents to lock their doors, lock their garages, lock their sheds, lock their vehicles and NEVER leave the key or key fob in their vehicles.
