64-Year-Old Man Arrested for Allegedly Swinging Dog into a Tree Limb on Leash

MONTCLAIR, NJ - Montclair Police arrested 64-year-old Lawrence Athill on March 18 after he is alleged to have swung a dog by its leash through the air and into a tree limb on Eagle Rock Way. 

Police state that after being observed, "swinging a dog through the air on a leash, into a tree," Athill was arrested and charged with Cruelty to Animals.

Officers reported that the dog, a 40lb mix-breed, had a small amount of blood on its head but did not appear seriously injured.

Animal control officers responded to the scene and took the dog for medical treatment. The dog will remain in
their care until a final determination is made.
