PATERSON, NJ – The Democratic congressional primary went presidential on Friday.
In the morning, Rep. Steve Rothman strolled from the Oval Office with President Barack Obama as the White House press corps looked on. In the afternoon, Rep. Bill Pascrell embraced former President Bill Clinton in a rally attended by hundreds at Kennedy High School.
An article on Politico.com called the Democratic race in the 9th Congressional district a “proxy war” between Obama and Clinton, a demonstration of the lingering tensions from the 2008 presidential race.
A story on nj.com included the following comments by Clinton on Pascrell because, "I like him and because I worked with him and because I know how effective he is for you."
"The president invited me to the Oval Office to express his support. One doesn't invite oneself," Rothman said in an article on northjersey.com.
