PATERSON, NJ- Saying that he is “humbled by the outpouring of support that the residents of the 6th Ward have shown” him, community activist Al Abdelaziz submitted over 750 signatures to the Paterson City Clerk’s Office on Tuesday to appear on the November ballot.

The required number of valid signatures to run for the seat that will become vacant when Andre Sayegh becomes mayor on July 1 stands at 136.

A former political opponent of Sayegh’s, Abdelaziz received 1,172 votes when he ran against him in a hotly contested election in 2016. Earlier this year Abdelaziz endorsed his former opponent’s bid for mayor and was a regular presence on the campaign trail for the eventual winner.

“We will continue the progress and keep the 6th Ward strong,” Abdelaziz said. “I'll continue to knock on doors, connect with neighbors, collect signatures and meet new people as we move forward together.”
