PATERSON, NJ - A Passaic man has been arrested in connection with the stabbing death of a former girlfriend early Wednesday in Paterson.
According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Troy Oswald, the investigation into the incident that occurred at 79 Mercer Street has led to the murder charges against Eddie Smith, 37.
The report continued that police were called to the home at approximately 3:41 a.m. and, upon arrival, found the victim, Shatina Adams, 40, of Paterson, lying inside the residence with apparent stab wounds. Adams was transported to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center by Paterson Fire Department EMS where she was later pronounced deceased.
Adams and Smith have previously been involved in a dating relationship with the suspect coming to the residence to speak to Adams, at which time, according to law enforcement, an argument ensued. Smith is believed to have stabbed Adams multiple times before fleeing the apartment. Smith was later taken into custody in Passaic.
