PATERSON, NJ - Paterson police on Tuesday arrested city resident Deshawn Watkins in connection with a shooting six months ago on Plesinger Place.

On May 16, a 20-year-old male was shot several times in the legs in a courtyard area near 16 Plesinger Place. The victim has since recovered from his injuries, but Watkins, a suspect in the case, had been at large until Tuesday.

A 29-year-old former resident of River Street, Watkins has been charged with attempted murder and weapons offenses. He is being held in a Paterson jail sell pending bail and the setting of a date for a court appearance.

"(Watkins) was arrested by Paterson Ceasefire Detectives, along with members of the U.S. Marshal’s Regional  Fugitive Task Force and the Drug Enforcement Administration, after receiving information that Watkins may be in a residence located within an apartment on Plesinger Place," said Lt. Patrick Murray of the Ceasefire Unit. "Detectives responded to the location, and after conducting surveillance in the area, were able to determine Watkins whereabouts within the building, at which time Watkins was taken into custody without incident. Watkins was charged in the shooting incident several weeks after its occurrence by Detective Carlos Charon and County Prosecutor’s Detective Ricardo Ferreira, but Watkins' exact whereabouts were not known until detectives recently received updated information."
