PATERSON, NJ - Police arrested Kimate Patton, 31, of 302 Broadway on Saturday after he allegedly stabbed a city resident on Broadway and Carroll Street early Saturday afternoon.

The victim, a 36-year-old male, suffered several knife wounds in the incident, but his injuries were not considered life-threatening. 

According to Lt. Bert Ribeiro, the stabbing occured after the two men began fighting at around 12:45 p.m. The cause of the altercation isn't known. The suspect stabbed the victim several times, then attempted to escape by boarding an NJ Transit bus. Police, however, detained the bus and then arrested Patton, who was charged with aggravated assault and weapons possession.

Officers Christopher Oji, Iris Velez and Officer Bruce were credited with apprehending Patton.
