PATERSON, NJ – Councilman William McKoy thinks the city ought to include its police captains among those offered the opportunity to take the civil service test to become Paterson’s next police chief, according to a story on northjersey.com.

City officials previously have said the field likely would be limited to Paterson’s deputy chiefs – Robert Drace, William Fraher and Danny Nichols. Fraher will be named the acting chief when James Wittig filed his resignation December 31, officials said.

Allowing captains to take the chief’s test would expand the field of potential applicants to 10, the story said.
