PATERSON, NJ - The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office is appealing a municipal judge's decision to allow veteran city councilwoman Vera Ames-Garnes to retain her seat, according to an article on northjersey.com.

A judge had ruled that Ames-Garnes could keep her council seat despite being found guilty of disorderly persons charges in connection with her intervention in a traffic stop in Paterson by a Prospect Park police officer. But the county prosecutor has filed an appeal to try to get that decision overturned, according to the story.

In response, Ames-Garnes has filed an appeal seeking to get the disorderly persons verdict overturned, the story said.
