PATERSON, NJ - After a recent series of shootings, some folks were urging Patersonians to stay off the streets late at night.

Well, staying home isn't always safe, either.

An Essex Street couple were sleeping in their bedroom in their first floor apartment at about 2 am on Wednesday when the sound of breaking glass awoke them, police said. Standing in their bedroom was a hooded gunman who broke in through their window, police said.
