Dec. 3: Jazz at the Library


PATERSON, NJ - Sabir Mateen's Omni Sound will provide a free jazz performance at the Paterson Free Public Library on December 3 at 2pm.

The show by Mateen, a saxophonist, and his band, Omni Sound, will be the final concert in the library’s 2011 Silk City Jazz Festival.

Mr. Mateen has performed with Jazz greats such as Cecil Taylor, The Sun Ra Arkestra, William Parker, Butch Morris, and many others. His music has taken him to Europe, Japan, and Africa as well as all across America.

 Omni Sound was formed in 2007 and presents another side of Mr. Mateen’s musical conception. The rest of the group includes Matt Lavelle on trumpet, Hillard Greene on bass, and Michael Wimberly on drums.

I am writing this letter to express a grave concern I have regarding the influx of absentee ballots. To my understanding, absentee ballots were designed to be used by those who are unable to make it to the polls on Election Day. Such as people in the armed services or those who are away on vacation. 

This year’s municipal election will be one for the history books.
