NEWARK, NJ- A doctor with an office in Paterson was sentenced to 36 months in prison for defrauding Medicare and private insurance companies out of $3 million by billing them for over 150,000 physical therapy sessions that were performed by unlicensed and unqualified personnel between January, 2007 and May, 2016.

The sentence, according to a statement by U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito, follows the guilty plea of Anthony J. Enrico of North Haledon to one county of health care fraud. Enrico also had offices in Passaic and Elizabeth.

In addition to the prison terms, Enrico was sentenced to three years of supervised release and ordered to pay restitution of $3 million.
