PATERSON, NJ- A Paterson man pulled over by Passaic County Sheriff’s Officers on Sunday was quickly arrested after announcing “I have an eighth of a pound of marijuana on me.”
According to Sheriff Richard Berdnik the stop was made at approximately 9:00 a.m. in the area of North 1st Street and Arch Street.
The driver, identified as Melvin Thomas, 33, made the admission after he was questioned about the “strong odor of burnt marijuana emanating from the interior of the vehicle.”
While the suspect left the vehicle, Officer Carlos Gill allegedly observed a plastic bag containing the marijuana, as well as an additional 14 baggies containing suspected marijuana, three bundles of suspected heroine, 200 blue and red empty baggies and a scale. 
Thomas faces several charges related to the possession of,  and suspected intent to distribute, the drugs.
