PATERSON, NJ – Eastside High School’s boys volleyball team are heading to the upcoming NJSIAA tournament as the sixth ranked team in North Jersey Section 1. This represents the first team from Eastside High School will participate in the tournament which starts on Tuesday with a home game against West Essex on Tuesday.

The match will tip off at 4:15.

Superintendent Eileen F. Shafer said that the scholar athletes have already won the pride of their fellow students, as well as the staff, at Eastside High School saying that the entire district, and the City of Paterson, is behind them “ready to cheer them on, every step of the way in the state tournament.”

The athletes have excelled by playing as a team, each understanding their own roles, Head Coach Robert Black said. “They are an extremely unselfish group of players and a pleasure to coach.” Black was also named  Coach of the Year in the Big North Liberty Division.

The team includes the following players of distinction:


·         George Gonzalez, 12th grade, outside hitter, 1st team All Passaic County and 1st team All-League

·         Ny’Vir Perkins, 12th grade, outside hitter, 2nd team All Passaic County and 1st team All-League.

·         Alberto Torres, 10th grade, setter, 2nd team All Passaic County and 1st team All-League

·         Dewar Lausell, 12th grade, opposite hitter, 2nd team All-League

·         Carlos Ortiz, 11th grade, 2nd team All-League.
