Eastside Takes Title in Jingle Bells Jubilee Boys Basketball Tourney


PATERSON, NJ - Asem Johnson scored 27 points to steer Eastside to a 64-57 victory over Hudson Catholic in the championship game of the Jingle Bells Jubilee Boys Basketball Tournament Sunday at Paterson School of Science and Technology.

The undefeated Ghosts (5-0) were clinging to a two-point lead, 42-40, after three quarters before pulling away in the final quarter. Marquel Sheffield totaled 14 points and Shakur Juiston and Ahmad Dauda tallied eight points apiece in the victory.

Eastside had beaten Newark Tech, 64-62, in the first game of the tournament, when Johnson finished with 22 points and eight rebounds and point guard Aaryn Abrams contributed 13 points and five assists. In the second round of the tournament, the Ghosts defeated Teaneck, 64-62, in overtime. Juiston had 18 points and 13 rebounds in that victory.

Johnson finished with 65 points (21.7 ppg.) in the tournament to lead Eastside.
