Eastside Tops Kennedy, 68-52, in PCT Semifinals

PATERSON, NJ – The Ghosts of Eastside showed again why they are the best team in Paterson, and probably all of Passaic County, as they beat Kennedy, 68-52, in the semifinals of the Passaic County Tournament.

Senior DeAndre Noble-Haywood scored 19 points and senior Ky’re Jackson added 16 points and 12 rebounds as Eastside gained a measure of revenge for last year’s loss in the county tournament finals to the Knights.

Eastside now plays DePaul Catholic in the finals next Saturday at noon at Wayne Valley High.

Noble-Haywood hit a pair of free throw late in the game to reach the 1,000-point mark for his career. While Noble-Haywood and Jackson were the stars, Eastside's whole team played well. Junior Jetor Brown had 14 points and senior Nasser Crawford and Jordan Smith contributed to a 20-0 second quarter run that more or less decided the game.

Kennedy had played well in the first quarter, leading 14-10, and was still ahead 20-13 in the second when the Ghosts went on a 20-0 run to end the half. It gave Eastside a 33-20 halftime lead, which the Ghosts maintained the rest of the way.

Eastside’s defense kept the Knight’s top scorer, senior Sammy Singletary, in check the whole game. He was held to 10 points. Junior Hassan Towns led the Knights with 15 points and freshman Donte Wise added 12 points and 7 rebounds.

In the girls' finals, Passaic Tech will play Wayne Hills at 2:30 pm.
