Eastside Varsity Football Team Gets First Win, 22-0, over Passaic


PATERSON, NJ - The Eastside High School varsity football team broke into the win column for the first time this fall with a 22-0 victory over Passaic High School Thursday night in Paterson.

Quarterback Tahj Upshaw passed for 141 yards and a touchdown and Marlon Ebanks rushed for 97 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries for the Ghosts. Eastside took a 6-0 lead in the first quarter on Upshaw's 58-yard pass to Prince Block.

In the second quarter, Eastside extended its lead to 13-0 on a 10-yard touchdown run by Ebanks and an extra-point kick by Loron Laing. In the third quarter, Laing's 23-yard field goal extended the Ghosts' lead to 16-0.

A 4-yard TD run by Ebanks in the third period capped the scoring, helping send Passaic to a 1-5 record, the same mark as Eastside's. Upshaw finished with 10 completions in 18 attempts. Block caught three passes for 74 yards.

On defense, Akinde McQueen totaled 10 tackles and a pair of quarterback sacks. Isaiah Wharton also came through with 10 tackles in the victory.
