Eastside Wins Second Straight Football Game, 22-18, over Clifton

PATERSON, NJ - The Eastside varsity football team scored a pair of touchdowns in the first quarter and went on to a 22-18 victory over Clifton Friday night in Paterson.

It was the second consecutive victory for the Ghosts after beginning the season with five straight losses. Quarterback Tahj Upshaw threw two touchdown passes to Prince Block, including a 14-yard connection in the opening quarter to get the scoring started.

A 28-yard touchdown run by Terrence Tate extended Eastside's lead to 14-0. Clifton (3-4) closed to within two points with a pair of TDs in the second quarter, but missed the PAT attempt after each score.

Eastside's defense produced a safety in the Clifton end zone in the third period, extending the Ghosts' lead to 16-12. In the fourth quarter, Upshaw hooked up again with Block, this time on a 71-yard breakaway that boosted the Eastside lead to 22-12.

Upshaw finished with 240 passing yards and Akinde McQueen led the Eastside defense with two sacks of the Clifton quarterback.
