PATERSON, NJ - Recognizing that an annual gala is a major funding source to non-profits, many business organizations support such events.  But few such contributors are intimately involved with the charities they support.  Eva’s Village, the most comprehensive anti-poverty organization serving New Jersey’s poor, is honoring TD Bank, America’s Most Convenient Bank®, at its 2011 Annual Benefit Gala in recognition of the bank’s meaningful involvement with the poor and the lasting difference their effort makes in the community.

The mission of Eva’s Village is to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, treat the addicted and provide free medical and dental care to the poor.  TD Bank believes in supporting the communities where its customers and employees live and work.  The bank’s employees volunteer at Eva’s Kitchen on a regular basis, feeding a hot and nutritious lunch to the homeless and working poor.  “We are proud to unite with Eva’s Village and make a positive impact in our community,” said Don Buckley, Market President for TD Bank.  “At TD Bank, we are passionate about making a difference, and partnering with an organization with the same values has been a natural fit.”

Recognizing TD Banks commitment to helping the hungry, homeless and poor of New Jersey, Eva’s Village is honoring the Bank with their 2011 “Where Hope Begins” award, to be presented at the Annual Benefit Gala, October 25, 2011.

TD Bank responded by graciously becoming a major sponsor of the event, as has Rapid Pump & Meter Service Co., Inc. and Machinery Services Corp., Paterson businesses owned by the Taylor family, who are previous Eva’s Village Gala Honorees.  The Taylor family has supported Eva’s Village ever since they served their first lunch at Eva’s Kitchen almost 30 years ago.  The Taylor family has proudly operated their businesses in Paterson, NJ since 1978 and has consistently demonstrated their community spirit by giving back in a very personal way.

Donna Marie Fico, Chief Marketing Officer at Eva’s Village, notes that the 2011 Benefit Gala for Eva’s Village is subtitled Building for Hope.  “We feel it is important to recognize those who have helped Eva’s Village to expand and meet the growing need in our community,” states Ms. Fico.  She points out that through almost three decades of service, Eva’s Village has established a unique record in facing community challenges and changing the lives of New Jersey’s hungry, homeless and addicted.  The model anti-poverty charity now includes fourteen integrated programs housed in numerous buildings spanning several city blocks in downtown Paterson.  Each year, the Eva’s Village Annual Benefit Gala provides a critical funding source to the many programs that make Eva’s Village so critical important to those in need, and each year the progressive organization strives to provide interest and value at their gala.  A virtual tour is provided in a “Visit the Village” exhibit, which this year will highlight new and newly expanded programs, including the expansion of Eva’s Kitchen and Eva’s Village Healthcare Clinic, the newly constructed Eva’s Village Apartments and Eva’s Village Food Service Training Center, now underway.  Starting in 2010 handheld BidPal® devices for bidding are provided to every attendee to make silent auction bidding fast and fun.

“Eva’s kitchen, sheltering, recovery and healthcare programs could not exist without the generosity of our donors,” states Sister Gloria Perez, Executive Director at Eva’s Village.  “We are grateful to individuals, organizations and corporations that support our efforts both through volunteerism and financial support.”

TAPinto Paterson Reader Shares Concerns About Absentee Ballots

April 21, 2018

Dear editor:

I am writing this letter to express a grave concern I have regarding the influx of absentee ballots. To my understanding, absentee ballots were designed to be used by those who are unable to make it to the polls on Election Day. Such as people in the armed services or those who are away on vacation.

This year’s municipal election will be one for the history books.
